F. Leroy Garrabrant

F. Leroy Garrabrant, Jr., 95, of Neptune City died Tuesday October 4th, 2016 at his home. He was the owner of the Garrabrant Agency, Asbury Park and Wall Township for forty years retiring in 1987. Born in Neptune, he attended Neptune schools and Stevens Institute of Technology, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was previously employed by the DeLaval Steam Turbine Company in Trenton, N.J. He was past president of the Monmouth County Board of Realtors, the Shore Multiple Listing Service, the Central Jersey Chapter of the Society of Residential Appraisers, and the Wheelman Club of Asbury Park. He was also a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He was a designated member of the Institute of Real Estate Appraisers (MAI). He belonged to the Kiwanis Club of Asbury Park for 64 years. A resident of Neptune City, he served as Tax Assessor for twenty-seven years and also as Housing Authority Commissioner and Member of the Borough Planning Board. He had been a director of the Keystone Savings and Loan Association and a member of the Board of Governors of Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was author of Sunset...a Macular Journey, published when he was eighty seven, which relates the story of the loss of his eyesight to Macular degeneration. He was predeceased by his parents F. Leroy and Rebecca White Garrabrant Sr. Leroy is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years Della Nash Garrabrant Jr., his 2 beloved sons and their wives, Robert L. and Janice of Neptune and Thomas A. and Janet-Lynn of Philadelphia, Pa., his 2 dear grandsons Andrew and Brendan. In keeping with Leroy’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall.
