Carl Hardigg Pennsburg, Pennsylvania Obituary

Carl Hardigg

Carl Hardigg, 80, passed away peacefully at home in Allentown after a long illness on Saturday, November 8th, 2014. He was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend. Born in 1934 in Nashville, Tennessee, Carl attended the University of South Carolina on a Naval ROTC scholarship, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After college, he served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant, and was stationed as protocol officer at the Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland during the Cold War. Carl was a gifted salesman, and spent most of his career in senior sales positions for multinational companies including Alcoa, Simmons Bedding Company, and Knoll International. Carl moved to the Allentown area in 1981 while working for Knoll. A visit to Cab Frye’s Tavern in Palm, PA began a 35-year romance with his wife, Joyce Hardigg. He loved his family and digital photography – especially photographing his grandchildren. He was funny, loyal, sentimental, and generous, and we all miss him dearly. Carl is survived by his wife, Joyce Hardigg, his children: Wendi Okun (Seattle, Washington), Nick Hardigg and wife, Karen (Portland, Oregon), stepchildren: Lisa Haas and husband, David (Allentown) and Michelle Miklos and husband, Darren (Macungie), and nine grandchildren: Meagan Miklos, Jared Fryer, Tyler Miklos, Alex Okun, Nicole Haas, Olivia Okun, Nathan Haas, Ashe Hardigg, and Eleanor Hardigg. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eunice and Oscar, and his brother, James. A memorial service will be at 7PM Tuesday, Nov. 11th at The Falk Funeral Home, 163 Main Street, Pennsburg 18073. Friends may call from 6-7 PM. In place of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be considered to: Lehigh Valley Hospice, PO Box 4000, Allentown, PA 18105-4000; OR the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place, Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
