Evelyn Cochran Manistee, Michigan Obituary

Evelyn Cochran

Evelyn Kay Cochran, 69, of Scottville, MI, went home to be with her Lord on November 6, 2014, surrounded and serenaded by her loving family after a brief battle with cancer. She was born December 2, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Marshall and Leona (Dean) Westover. Evelyn grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and then graduated from Prairie High School in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. She married Paul Roger Cochran on July 3, 1964 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and spent the rest of her life in devotion to her children and family, attending hundreds of ball games, baking the most amazing chocolate cakes in the world, and formulating perfect nicknames for every child who touched her life. Evelyn enjoyed camping, drinking coffee on the deck while watching the birds, hunting for antiques, and ruminating on God's word and bits of wisdom that she tediously collected in her notebooks. Over the years she worked as an insurance underwriter and held clerical positions with various organizations, including the Municipal Court in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Hundreds of empty stomachs enjoyed her food service business, and hundreds of precious cheeks enjoyed her kisses in her day care. Even the worst of circumstances were handled with a resolve marked by her unique sense of humor and quiet assurance. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roger; children, Debbie (Drew) Fierst of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Jeff, and Janet (Chuck) Davis of Thornville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Norman (Sally) Westover of Michigan and Herb (Sue) Westover of Ohio, and one sister, Lois O'Hara. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Shirley) Westover, her brother-in-law, William O'Hara, and her brother-in-law and wife, Benjamin (Janet) Cochran. Calling hours for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church in Scottville, Michigan. A celebration service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Darrell Storvik officiating. A graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown, Michigan. Any memorial contributions should be made to New Tribes Mission at http://usa.ntm.org in the name of Evelyn Cochran. Proceeds will be evenly disbursed to her niece and nephew's children who serve as missionaries in New Guinea. To share a memory or leave a condolence for the family, visit www.oakgrovefh.com.
