Earl Bechtel Obituary

Earl G. Bechtel, 75, of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Frey Village Retirement Center. Born in Waltonville, Derry Township, on June 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Stanley G. and Margaret M. Wyland Bechtel. Earl was an auto body technician. He retired from Hershey Chocolate Company; and drove buses for Rohrer Bus Service at the Lower Dauphin School District and Hershey Park. Earl was a 1958 graduate of Hershey High School. He was a member of The Bridge, Hummelstown. Earl got his most enjoyment tinkering around in his garage working on cars and lawn tractors. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Waneta R. Hixon Bechtel, who he married on July 18, 1959; three sons, John Earl Bechtel and his girlfriend Catherine D. Smallwood of Burlington, NC, Randy S. Bechtel and his wife Tonya L. of Mechanicsburg, and Mark A. Bechtel of Conway, SC; two daughters, Kristy A. Tucker of Highspire, and Sara E. Bechtel of Elizabethtown; three sisters, Arlene V. Trout and her husband Lynn, and Betty J. Bobb both of Mechanicsburg, and Janet L. Lewis and her companion Harold Gibson of Palmyra; one brother, Stanley I. Bechtel of Palmyra; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Taylinn Grace Albright, and a brother, Eugene D. “Geno” Bechtel. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014, at 2 PM at The Rail, 220 South Hanover Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Bryan O. Hoke, officiating. Relatives and friends will be received Thursday in the church following the services. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions made to the American Cancer Society, Capital Region Unit, 2 Lemoyne Drive, Ste 101, Lemoyne, PA 17043. The family requests that you dress casual, and if anyone has pictures of Earl please bring them to the service to be placed on the memorial table.
