Mrs. Loretta Faye Stapleton Barton, age 58, of the Hurricane Creek Road section of Vansant, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday (October 24, 2014) at her home. Born March 5, 1956, she was a daughter of the late Thelma Ellis Stapleton Sykes and John Wesley Stapleton. She had spent most of her life in the area and was of the Holiness faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Burl Sykes. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of forty-two years, Jeff Barton of the home; one daughter, Linda Stevens and fiancé, Anthony Johnson; two grandsons, Dakota Stevens and Dawson Stevens; brothers, Sam Stapleton of Tennessee, Jerry Stapleton and wife, Hope of Coeburn, Jimmy Stapleton, Van Sykes, and Felix Sykes all of North Carolina; four sisters, Wanda Lester and husband, Luther of Slate Creek, Judy Hickson and husband, Bobby of Tennessee, Mary Compton and husband, James of Honaker, and Tammy Oaks and husband, Jeff of Big Stone Gap; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Troy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Scotty Barton, Michael Ball, Dustin Barton, Henry Stump, Chase Moore, Harold Johnson, Anthony H. Johnson, and Brian Stevens. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Compton, Freddie O’Quinn, Don Ball, and Anthony Johnson. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday.
