Eugene Goodhue Obituary

Eugene Vincent “Geno” Goodhue – age 86 of Walhalla, Michigan died Saturday, October 18, while temporarily residing at Heartland Crestview Facility in Grand Rapids. He was born on September 13, 1928 in Holton, Michigan the son of the late Josiah and Bertha (Hoffman) Goodhue. He was a 1947 graduate of Holton High School and a retired National Guard Vet. Following that he had been employed as a Supervisor by Plumb’s Super Markets from 1950 to 1965. He then took the position of director for Spartan Non-Foods Divisions for the next 22 years. Following his retirement, he had his hand in several businesses he had opened, from RG’s Restaurant to the Walhalla Mobile Homes on U.S. 10. Gene was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting, dancing the Polka, Waltz or whatever the song he could move his feet to! He also had a great love for travelling, his winters were spent in Eleuthera Bahama’s & sometimes in Florida. During the summer you would find him sitting on his porch listening to the Tigers Game, tinkering around with the latest travel trailer he had found during his many “afternoon rides”, or planting flowers and vegetables to give to the kids that would come up to visit. The rainy days didn’t stop him; he would head off to one of the local Casinos to “win big”, as he would put it. Very seldom would you ever find Gene sitting still! He lived each and every moment of his life to the fullest, never wasting a second of if! He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clayton, Gerald and George; sisters, Josephine and Virginia; and daughter, Bobbi Kersjes. Surviving Gene is his son, Gene (Nori) Goodhue; his 3 daughters, Tara M. Goodhue-Martin, Shirl Dekker-Farling, Shari Goodhue; and his grandchildren, Makenna F. Goodhue, Michael (Amanda) Dekker and his 5 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Mackenzie, Anthony, Cody and Brody. He lived a life full of adventure, taking advantage of all life had to offer him. He will be greatly missed! Cremation has taken place, and per Gene’s wishes, there will be a gathering at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Ludington, Monday October 27, 2014 at 1:00 P.M The Goodhue family would also like to express their great thanks to the Hospice of Michigan for the compassionate care provided to Gene.
