Dwight Glidden Obituary

Dwight Glidden, 67, of Damariscotta and Dresden, passed away at home in the company of his wife and Clumber Spaniels. Although he was a life-long non-smoker, Dwight was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in August 2012 which was presumed to be from agent orange exposure in Viet Nam. Dwight maintained a positive ‘push through it” attitude through many radiation and chemo treatments. He met his daily commitments with an incredible work ethic. An inspiration to us all. Dwight’s generous heart, quick sense of humor, sparkling blue eyes and easy smile touched many lives. He was a hard working man who helped anyone he could. Dwight was born on September 26, 1947 in Brooks to Wendall and Winifred (Smith) Glidden. Dwight grew up in Brooks and attended local schools. Dwight served heroically in Viet Nam in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in August 1967. Upon returning from the war, Dwight worked 20 years for Chicago Bridge and Iron as a boilermaker and Master Welder. Following his retirement from CB & I, he worked for 20 years for the United States Postal Service, serving as Officer in Charge for the New Harbor and South Bristol post offices. He retired in August 2003. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles and Brandon Glidden. He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Glidden of Damariscotta his parents, Wendall and Winifred Glidden of Brooks, ME Sister, Brenda of Liberty, Maine Children from previous marriage, Tracy Gaspar of Glen Allen, VA Shannon Cloutier and her husband John of Scarborough Grandchildren, Jenna, Taylor, and Nathan Gaspar all of Virginia Logan, Sidney and Payton all of Scarborough Children, Kristen Wendling and her husband David of Monterey, CA Scott White and his wife Celeste of Monterey, CA Grandchildren, Theodore and Madeline Wendling of Monterey, CA Sophia and Collette White of Monterey, CA. Aunts, uncles and cousins Dwight will always be loved and missed by his wife, JoAnn. On behalf of Dwight, JoAnn would like to thank all our friends and neighbors for their constant prayer,thoughts and love, most especially Charles and Meredith MacDearmid, and Millie Gould. Also, Sarah Robey, P.A. and the staff at Dr. Kitfield’s office, Dr. Paul LaPrad and his staff at MidCoast Medical Group Pulmonology in Brunswick. According to Dwight’s wishes, there will be no services or memorial. Dwight had a special place in his heart for their rescued Clumber Spaniels. Those that knew him best will remember his constant truck companion, Bess.
