Hazel Johnson

Mrs. Hazel C. Johnson, age 91, of Honaker, Virginia passed away Thursday (October 9, 2014) at a Tazewell, Virginia nursing facility. Born September 30, 1923 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Jessee and Lou Clayborne Childress. A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was a loving mother and grandmother and devoted her life to her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Johnson; five sons, Earnest Johnson, Earl Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Danny Johnson and Eddie Johnson and two daughters, Doris Gaye Johnson Wallace and Loretta Ann Johnson Smith; five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include four children, Geraldine Ray and husband, Dewey of Swords Creek, Virginia, Linda Sue Shortridge, Jeanette Coxton and Roger Johnson all of Tazewell, Virginia; two grandchildren that she considered to be children, Timmy Johnson and Sissy Johnson; one brother, Paul Childress; one sister, Bertha Mae Ingles of Ohio; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Johnson; son-in-law, Charlie Wallace; twenty-seven grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Ray and Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday at the Johnson Cemetery on Combs Ridge. Interment will follow. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery.
