George Carey Obituary

George Edward Carey, age 81 of Manistee, died Saturday October 4, 2014 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born December 5, 1932 in Onekama the son of the late Russell Elwood and Pearl Augusta (Weaver) Carey. He attended Onekama Schools and served in the U.S. Army. On March 23, 1953, George married Shirley Ann Lind at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. He was employed as a cook on the car ferries in Ludington, and was a carpenter/assistant superintendent at Kincheloe Air Force Base for ten years, and finally worked at Packaging Corporation of America as a Machine Tender, retiring after 34 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. George and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Texas as well as fishing, hunting and visiting game rooms in Texas. His very special times were spent with his family and sharing in their activities and special occasions. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Carey of Manistee; sons, George M. Carey of Manistee, Daniel J. Carey of Skokie, IL and Robert (Christl) Carey of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Marylynn (Daniel) Adamski of Eastlake; grandchildren, Tamara (Chris) Exo of Brethren, Christopher (Christina) Adamski of Holland, Valerie Adamski (Tom Blain) of Lake, Mark (Megan) Carey of Manistee, Ryan Adamski of Manistee, Steven Carey (Jessica Onstott) of Manistee, Nicole Carey of Mount Pleasant, Sean, Matthew & Lily Carey all of Skokie, IL, Morgan Carey of Lincoln, NE; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Edson, John and Donald Carey; and 4 sisters, Gladys Turk, Dorothy Sersaw, Betty Clausen and Josephine Helminski. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life gathering will take place at 12 noon on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Father Chet Collins officiating.
