Nellie Ruth Edwards, 95, of Winchester, died Monday, September 29, 2014, at her home. Mrs. Edwards was born October 8, 1918 in Smythe County, VA; the daughter of Timothy S. Sparks and Nannie Martin Sparks. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. She married Howard W. Edwards on August 9, 1941 in Marion, VA. Mr. Edwards preceded her in death on August 18, 1986. She is survived by her brother, Frank Leon Sparks of Stephens City and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George H. Sparks and Timothy S. Sparks and seven sisters, Pansy Gates, Gray Dye, Polly Hillmuth, Mary Allison, Ida Pickel, Oneda Thweatt and Oma Jean Atkins. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Winchester with Rev. Mike Mayton and Pastor Darlene Wilkins officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Mike Thweatt, Tim Thweatt, Jay Chapman, Terry Oates, Kellen Breeden and Paul Whitmore.
