Larry Rasnake Obituary

Mr. Larry Dee Rasnake, age 62, of the Call Valley section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Monday (September 29, 2014) at his home. Born July 2, 1952 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Earl and Lou Ella Perkins Rasnake. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Swords Creek Block Church. A disabled coal miner, he was formerly employed by Island Creek VP#3 and was a member of UMWA Local #1640 District 17. He was an avid motorcyclist, and enjoyed spending his spare time on his Harley with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Rasnake and Randy Rasnake, one sister, Doris Gay Rasnake, and one niece, Rhonda Salyers. Survivors include his wife of forty-two years, Mary Lou Perkins Rasnake of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Lynn Hart of Kingsport, Tennessee; one son, Larry Derrick Rasnake and wife, Christy of Piney Flats, Tennessee; grandchildren, Chloe Elizabeth Hart and Cody Sparkman; two sisters, Joyce Whited of Tazewell, Virginia and Phyllis Harrison and husband, Terry of Pounding Mill, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Linda Rasnake of Honaker; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. David Perkins, Rev. Steve Perkins, and Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow in the Rasnake Cemetery at Drill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Bobby Street, Rick Miller, Brad Baldwin, Kris Rasnake, Bobby Rasnake, Roger Dye and Terry Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Hess, Wayne Baldwin, Bruce Baldwin, Doug Sheppard, Danny Blankenship, Jerry Settle, and the Men from VP#3 mine. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening service will be conducted with Rev. Wayne Perkins and Rev. Jerry Ward officiating.
