Phyllis Mattie Campbell Obituary

Phyllis was the first baby born in Poindexter Village on July 6, 1940. At the age of six years she and her family moved to the Hilltop to reside in her deceased grandparents home. Phyllis attended John Burroughs Elementary School and West Junior and Senior High Schools. She married at an early age and became the mother of her much loved son.

Phyllis became a faithful and active member of the First Church of God, and was active in the music ministry. She was a soloist, choir member and one of the choir directors.

She and her sisters, Joan and Betty began singing in 3 part harmony at a very early age (taught by their father) and sung in churches, recreation centers, on T.V. and radio and The Apollo Theater in New York City, and also sung with Horse Height American Way Band at the Memorial Hall in Columbus Ohio.

Phyllis was employed for many years for the State of Ohio at the Columbus State Hospital, and the Columbus State School as an attendant until she had to retire on disability. She continued to work part time jobs as a cook for the MRDD program, The Day Care program at First Church, and the Pilot Dog Program.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Mattie Hill, her older sister, Joan E. Carter and her seven babies lost at birth. She will have a joyful meeting with them in Glory.

Phyllis M. Hill Campbell, 74 years old went home to be with the Lord, Saturday 27, 2014 after a courageous 14 year battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia (FTD).

She is survived by her son Sean T. Campbell (Vicky), her loving sister and care giver Betty Hill Scott, and youngest sister, Rinder Hill Walker, special care giving nieces Dr. Kimberly Cater Thomas, and Karen Carter, special nephew Panola Carter and other loving nieces and nephew, four aunts; Rose A. Brown, Irma Woods, Orinda Willis, and Dorothy Hill; a host of first cousins, family members, long time friends and church family.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

2 Timothy 4:7
