Ward Hunt

Ward Chester Hunt Jr., age 87, of East Haddam and formerly of Milford, died September 19, 2014 in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. Pyne Hunt. Ward was born in Milford on May 15, 1927 to the late Ward C. Hunt Sr. and Gladys Merwin Hunt. He was an 11th generation descendant of Miles Merwin (1623-1697), an original founder of the settlement that is now Milford. Before retiring, Ward was an electrician, he owned and operated Ward C. Hunt Incorporated. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from 1944-1946. He was an active member of the Woodmont Volunteer Fire Co., the Woodmont B’s, the American Legion Post 196 of Milford, VFW 7788 of Devon and was a former President of Moodus Lake Shores Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Barbara Romei of Huntsville, AL., Ellen Hunt of Milford, Joanne Pelkey of Beacon Falls, Mary Jeanne McDaniel of West Haven, Carolyn Kron of Milford and Ward C. Hunt III of Stamford, grandchildren Theresa, Joseph, Catherine, Kevin, Mary Ellen, Mary Margaret, Daniel, Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers Russell Hunt, Paul Hunt and his sister Phyllis Trowbridge. Friends may call Wednesday September 24, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday directly in St. Agnes Church Milford at 11:00am. Interment will be private. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
