Carolyn Marmon Obituary

CAROLYN L. MARMON Carolyn (Cartier) Marmon, age 80, celebrated the culmination of her life of living and giving to family and friends by entering the House of God on September 19, 2014. Carolyn was the rock the family was founded upon and provided sustenance throughout her life. What a wonderful lady. Carolyn lived life to the fullest. She travelled extensively around the globe. She skied many mountains both in the Rockies and in Europe – her favorite the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland. She rode motorcycles in Europe and was an honorary member of the Porto Portugal Motorcycle Club. She travelled on the first tour across China when it opened for tourism. She spent a month driving the length of Australia, visiting and making friends with the local people, including lunch with Crocodile Harry, whose life was chronicled in the movie “Crocodile Dundee”. She went scuba diving in the Caribbean and built a home of coral on Cayman Brac in the Cayman Islands. She was known as the lady with the brick-layers’ hands. She sailed the Great Lakes in her cabin cruiser and had a few white knuckle trips. She fished for steelhead on the Little Manistee River and hunted ducks in the Martingy’s. She backpacked in the Absaroka wilderness area and many other mountains across North America. She accompanied her husband on numerous hunting trips across North America, the Baja, Nepal and Mongolia. She owned the concession rights for big game hunting of over 4000 square miles in the Yukon. She stayed in a trapper’s cabin and drove her own dog sled team while hunting wolves in the Yukon at 20-30 degrees below zero. Carolyn lived one hell-of-an interesting life. Carolyn enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her loving parents, James and Arvilla Cartier, brothers, James and Roland, who have gone before her. Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Tom, her adoring children, Christine Laug, Kathleen Marmon, Thomas Marmon and David Marmon, her grandchildren, Brian, Eric, Gregory, Bradley, Sarah and Jason, and her great grandchildren, Autumn and Dylan. Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Thursday September 25, 2014 at St. Simon Catholic Church 702 East Bryant Road, Ludington, with Father Lamar Partin celebrant. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday September 24, 2014 from 4:00 till 7:00PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home, 3060 West U.S. 10, Ludington, and again on Thursday morning from 10:00AM until time of funeral mass at church.
