Howard Steiner Obituary

Howard F. Steiner, 90, of Berne, IN, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born on October 20, 1923 in Adams County, IN to the late Homer and Magealena (Zurcher) Steiner. On November 19, 1949 he married I. Roselle Haines and after 54 years together she passed away on December 12, 2003. He was a self-employed farmer and also worked at Berne Furniture for 25 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. Howard was a member of West Missionary Church in Berne. He was a former member of Monroe United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer. It is there he also served on the financial committee, pastor/parish committee, missions committee, and the administrative board. Having had a passion for local and overseas missions he traveled to Ecuador in the 1970’s to assist in the construction of a local church. He is survived by 2 sons, Kerry W. (Lois) Steiner of Decatur and Kent L. (Shirley) Steiner of Berne; a daughter, Carolyn S. (Kendric) Christener of Decatur; 6 grandchildren, Jill (Casey) Zeller, Ashley (Landon) House, Sara and Jamie Steiner, Andrea and Katie Christener; 5 great grandchildren, Kailyn Steiner, Haelynn House, Kerry “KD” Robinson, Hadalee House, and Briley Zeller. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Paul Steiner and a sister, Marianne Liechty. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Haggard – Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at West Missionary Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Keith Rupp and burial will take place in Ray Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the American Legion Post 43. Memorials may be made to Family Life Care or Missions of West Missionary Church.
