Obituary
MACLEAN, Carmen Carole -
Passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the age of 80. She had been ill for many months, but passed away peacefully without any pain or suffering. Carmen is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Don MacLean. They met at McGill University, and were married for 59 years. She will be missed by her three children, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Sue MacLean and Ulf Walderberg and their daughter, Linnea; Laurie MacLean Wallace and Dave Wallace and their children Rachel-Dawn, Jennifer, Joshua and Aaron; and Rick and Lori MacLean and their children Sarah, Rebekah, Luke, Mark, Elizabeth and John. Rebekah and David Vandevoorde’s children, Jude, Acacia and Emmanuelle are all beloved great-grandchildren of Carmen. Carmen was born Carmen Carole Cardoza on May 19, 1934 and as a girl she was a dancer and actively involved in little theatre in Montreal. She became a very accomplished flamenco dancer to the point of winning the talent portion of the Miss Canada pageant (as Miss Montreal) in 1954. She had a passion for music and dancing and particularly enjoyed attending productions by the National Ballet of Canada as well as musical theatre. Although she struggled with significant mental and physical health issues throughout her adult life, she always found joy in music. She was able to take great pleasure in the many musical activities provided by the Humber Heights Retirement Village where she had lived with Don since 2009. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent care provided to Carmen by all of the staff and nurses at the Humber Heights Retirement Village. In lieu of flowers, the family have requested donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the National Ballet of Canada. Online condolences at newediukfuneralhome.com
