Jessie S. Smith, 85, of Summit Point, WV, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Winchester Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born September 1, 1929 in Smoke Hole, WV; the daughter of John William and Nellie Kimble Self. She was employed for 25 years at Doubleday, where she worked on the shipping line and later as a security guard. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Winchester Ward. Mrs. Smith married Ray W. Smith on August 11, 1947. Mr. Smith died on November 2, 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Lanna C. Smith and her son, Lowell W. Smith. Also surviving are a sister, Mary E. Lantz, and two brothers, Archie Self and Loran R. Self. Two brothers, Harman Self and Eugene Self are deceased. Her family is grateful for the wonderful care she received from June Underwood, the employees at Hilltop House, and the physicians and nurses at Winchester Medical Center. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home, 228 S. Pleasant Valley Rd., Winchester, VA. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 399 Apple Pie Ridge Rd., Winchester, VA with Bishop Jonathan D. Oringdulph officiating. Burial will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Perpetual Education Fund, c/o Bishop Jonathan D.
