Mr. Starling Daniel Roark, age 58, of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away Sunday (September 7, 2014) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born May 10, 1956 in Smyth County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Starling Douglas and Irene Elizabeth Whited Roark. He had spent most of his life in the area and was of the Holiness faith. A retired coal miner, he had formerly been employed by Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Fields Roark.
Survivors include one son, Douglas Roark of Lebanon; one sister, Susie Compton and husband, Tony of Lebanon; five nephews, Dwaine Compton and wife, Carie of Appleton, Wisconsin, Joshua Compton and wife, Aimee, Matthew Compton, and George Harris all of Lebanon, and Dave Turner of Castlewood; three great-nephews, Ethan Compton, Alec Compton, and Isaac Presley; one great-niece, McKayla Garrett; several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Kenneth Majors officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Whited Cemetery in Rosedale, Virginia. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Compton, Matthew Compton, George Harris, Tony Compton, David Fields, Jack Fields, and Alec Compton.
