John Kearns

John M. Kearns, 55, of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014, in his home. Born in Long Island, NY on October 31, 1958, he was the son of the late John D. and Rosemarie Martin Kearns. John retired after 20 years of service with the New York Police Department where he was a detective and received numerous awards, citations, and commendations. He was a 1976 graduate of Sachem High School, Long Island, NY. John loved to travel, especially going on cruises, was an avid hockey fan, and enjoyed his recreational time after his retirement. John was a brave and humble man, a loyal and caring brother, uncle and friend, and strove to inspire loyalty in others. He is survived by three sisters, Linda Kupec and husband Tom of Greenville, SC and their children, Austin, Josiah and Isaiah Kupec; Lorraine Klein and husband Bill of Lindenhurst, NY and their daughter, Julanne Klein; and Jacqueline Kearns of Hummelstown. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2014 at 6 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 4 PM until time of the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in memory of John to the Detective’s Endowment Association, Inc. Support Fund, 26 Thomas Street, New York, NY 10007. Please make checks payable to the DEA Support Fund.
