Mrs. Shirley Mae Ward Tuggle, age 70, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Friday (August 29, 2014) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born May 29, 1944 in Swords Creek, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ray Estil and Audrey Ellar Brown Ward. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Perkins Chapel at Swords Creek and a member of American Veterans Honor Guard Ladies Auxillary. She had formerly been a cook at the Shamrock Restaurant in Honaker, and enjoyed cooking and canning, as well as working puzzles and reading newspapers. She deeply loved her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Tuggle, her second husband, Johnny Tuggle, paternal grandparents, Bill and Eliza Ward, maternal grandparents, Mart and Mary Brown, one sister, Linda Ward, one niece, Lisa Shelton Dye, and one nephew, Willie Ward. Survivors include one son and special daughter-in-law, Mike and Donna Ward of Swords Creek; seven step-children, Doug Tuggle and wife, Cindy, Bruce Tuggle and wife, Rebecca all of Swords Creek, Mike Tuggle and wife, Joan, Sammy Tuggle and wife Peggy, Wand Guy and husband, all of Doran, Gary Tuggle and wife, Karen of Abingdon, and Debbie Melvin and husband, Thomas; four granddaughters, Chasity Ramsey and husband, James, Whitley Ward and friend, Kevin Rash, Reanna Brooke Ward, and Audrey Alyssa Ward; one grandson, Willie Shortt and wife, Zandria; two great-granddaughters, Madison Ramsey and Rachel Woodby; one great-grandson, Samuel Ramsey; nine step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Janie Shelton and husband, Joe, Darlene Whited and husband, Chester, Mary Thomas, Kathy Casey and husband, Terry, and Patty Dye and husband, Rocky; two brothers, Jack Ward and wife, Angie and Ralph Ward; special aunt, Sally B. Breedlove; special uncle, Mack Brown; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and family also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Steve Ray, Rev. Junior Ray, and Rev. LeNora Vanover officiating. Interment will follow in the Tuggle Cemetery at Swords Creek. Pallbearers will be James Ramsey, Jeff Shelton, Ricky Shelton, Roger Casey, Gary Breedlove, Chase Ray, Mark Tuggle, and Billie Dye. Honorary pallbearers will be Men of Perkins Chapel and her brothers-in-law. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday and Tuesday.
