Helen Corbett Obituary

Fort Edward Helen R. Corbett, 96, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home. Born January 3, 1918 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Hurley) Corbett. Helen graduated from Fort Edward High School and attended Mildred Elly Business School in Albany. She held positions with McMullen-Leavens Company in Glens Falls prior to World War II. During the War she worked for the U.S. Aeronautics Administration at Glens Falls Airport. Following the War she spent thirty-six years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Farmers Home Administration). During her retirement, Helen enjoyed volunteer work at the Glens Falls Hospital Guild and the Fort Hudson Nursing Home. She was an occasional letter writer to the Post Star, expressing her views on abortion and other controversial subjects. Her opinions were crystal clear and left little doubt of her stand on those issues. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her brother, Francis D. Corbett (Mary) of Albany. Helen is survived by her brother Lawrence E. Corbett and his wife Joan Corbett, as well as their children; Michael J. Corbett (Barbara), John L. Corbett (Lucia) and M. Sheila Corbett. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on G Wing at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home for the wonderful care extended to Helen over a period exceeding four years. At Helen’s request, there will be no calling hours. To leave online condolences or to view Helen’s Book of Memories, please visit www.kilmerfuneralhome.com.
