Wendy was born on July 15, 1960 in Ellsworth, ME Wendy passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Aug 27, 2014 at home. She fought ovarian and breast cancer over the last seven years along with a heart attack after a chemotherapy treatment. She survived all of the battles with a smile on her face and was currently cancer free. She was the daughter of Leroy and Marion Torrey Shepard. She was a graduate of Rockland District High School class of 1978. Wendy started out working at Shepard Chevrolet at a young age washing cars and learning the ropes of the business with her father, uncle and cousins amongst many employees over the years. As she matured in the business she started ordering the cars and trucks for stock and customer orders loving her job and just like her father was a natural at talking to just about anyone, sharing her loving nature and gracious smile with everyone, and just like her dad was a natural salesman. In the late 90’s she moved on to find other careers, True Value hardware in Warren, Scotts Blueberries, Steel and Marshal, and most recently Medomak Middle School Kitchen manager. She really loved her job at the school, and loved her coworkers. Doing whatever means necessary to make sure the kids were well fed and happy. Often times she was a shoulder for kids, teachers, friends and family to lean on. She enjoyed helping others fighting their cancers as well often going to appointments with anyone that needed her. It brought her great joy knowing that she was helping someone else with what she had already been through. She was always trying to help others no matter what the obstacle was. She was very dedicated to volunteering for the Warren Day committee with her husband running the parade for 11 years in the late 80’s and 90’s. She also helped her husband and his classmates with every class reunions for the class of 1977 every 5 years. She helped Jimmy with car and boat storage at Jimmy’s grandparents farm, you knew w here to find them every Saturday. Wendy and Jim also helped start the Medomak Valley High School Car Show, being car people they loved every minute of it. Wendy grew up spending her summers at Sandy Shores Campground, where she met her husband Jim (Skip) Kinney. Together they hit the ground running at the age of 15. In 1980 they built a house and were married in 1981 and had their daughter in 1983 Bridgette Mae Kinney. She was a loving and supporting mother encouraging Bridgette to start making pottery. Which Bridgette now owns and runs her own business called Dragons Breath Pottery. Often Wendy helped Bridgette with her art shows and gave her opinions on new ideas. Wendy’s favorite place was the camp that Jim and her bought in 1999 where they entertained with many family reunions, birthday parties, and 4th of July Celebrations on South Pond in Warren, just a few hundred feet from where her and Jim met for the first time in 1975. Wendy Loved racing around in her 1979 Chevy Malibu Classic, that she ordered and bought brand new. She loved riding her Jet Ski on South Pond and sitting around the campfire until wee hours of the morning telling stories and making people laugh. She was an exceptional and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and mentor to many. Wendy’s laugh was infectious especially when her and Bridgette stayed up to late or got up to early to go and do their black Friday shopping. She loved doing anything as long as it was with Jimmy, Bridgette or a friend, including Nascar races, Wiscassett Speedway, hundreds of car shows, and over 40 concerts. Wendy took many family trips to Florida, and last fall they went to Amish Country. Her favorite saying was “ We never go on vacations, we go on adventures!” Wendy and Jim had the marriage most couples can only dream of. They could finish each other’s sentences and without talking know what the other wanted. She always had a great outlook on life and since the cancers 7 years ago she had learned to ”Let it go”, and ” Live and let live”. Jimmy’s grandfather had told them at their wedding, “Never go to bed angry” Jimmy and Wendy prided themselves on his words. Wendy was predeceased by all her and Jims Grandparents, her parents Roy and Marion Shepard, Jims Father James R Kinney, and Uncle and Aunt, Prent and Evy Shepard. She is survived by the love of her life and husband Jim (Skip) Kinney, her loving daughter Bridgette Mae Kinney with her fiancé Chris McNally and his daughter Natalie, Mother in law Geneva (Nana) Kinney, Brother in law Vaughan Kinney and his companion Susan Adams and his children, Christina and Arik Fullerton and their children. Wendy’s only sister Linda and Gene Eaton of Stonington, and their children. Wendy’s cousins Glenn, Barry, and Neil Shepard and their families.
