Lawrence C. George, 80 of Grants Pass passed away August 24, 2014 at his residence in Grants Pass, Oregon. No services are planned at this time. Donations can be made to HASL, Center for Independent Living, 305 NE E Street, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526. Lawrence was born in Canton, Ohio in 1934, he moved with his family to San Antonio, TX where he finished his schooling and graduated from High School. Upon graduation he joined the Navy and spent a career as an electrician, ultimately retiring as a Senior Chief. After retiring from the Navy he moved to the Bay Area of California and worked at a paper mill as lead electrician. During this time as an Elks Lodge member he volunteered for many jobs with the Pittsburgh, California branch. While working in the Bay Area he began exploring the West Coast and fell in love with the Rogue Valley where he moved after retirement. Once here he continued his volunteer work driving a van first for Community Services and then for HASL (Handicap Awareness and Support League). He was also active in the Fleet Reserve Associate Serving a term as President. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, fishing and continuing to explore Southern Oregon and the Oregon coast. He is survived by his companion, Nancy Johnson; brother, Burrell, four nephews and their families.
