Robert Lee “Bob” Kibler, 86 of Atchison, KS died on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Lee Hendon, Pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Christian Church, American Lung Association or Kidney Foundation and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memories and condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com. Robert was born on June 18, 1928 in Bendena, KS the son of Warren S. and Louise C. (Ruhnke) Kibler. The family moved extensively and settled in Atchison in 1943. Bob graduated from Atchison High School in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Army in June 1946 and attended basic training in El Paso, TX. Mr. Kibler served in Korean Conflict as a T-4 in Personnel with Head Quarters of the 7th Infantry Division until his discharge in Nov. 1947. Following the service he attended Finley Engineering College, Kansas City for two years. He began work at the former LFM Company, Atchison, KS in 1950. Bob farmed and raised cattle while working at LFM. LFM was sold to Rockwell International and he continued to work for them until his retirement as foundry superintendent in 1990 after 40 years of work. He and his wife “Tiny” enjoyed traveling extensively in the United States and overseas. He was a member of the First Christian Church, the V.F.W. Post # 1175, Atchison, the Elks, and Bellevue Country Club. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, camping, boating and going to the casinos. He was married to Louise E. “Tiny” Thompson-Herdman on June 29th, 1979. Mrs. Kibler survives of the home. Additional survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Cook, Overland Park, KS., and Tracy Powell, Lawrence, KS., five grandchildren, Ryan Peterson, Paige Peterson, Jared Powell, Carrie (Jon) Schoeberl, Chad Cook, three great grandchildren, Tyler Peterson, Lanie Peterson, Kinley Schoeberl. Two nephews, Larry Kibler, Atchison, Mike Kibler, Orchard Park, NY, and niece, Margie Campbell, Enid, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Warren Kibler Jr., and son-in law, Steve Cook.
