Rheta Bailey Woodstock, Ontario Obituary

Rheta Bailey

BAILEY, Rheta Evelyn (Carder) - Quietly with family by her side, Rheta Bailey passed away on 20th day, August 2014 in her 96th year. Predeceased by her husband Harold Roy Bailey. Survived by her children Evelyn (Don), Murray (Helen), Jean (Dave), Shirley (Vince), Linda (Glen), Glen (Gayle), several Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Sister-in-law to Joyce, Verna, Madeline, Bernice as well as many nieces and nephews. Rheta cherished her home on the 8th line for the last 66 years where she raised her family, and gardened everything from squash to gladiolus. Her talents allowed her to do anything she set her mind to from catering family events, baking the very best Chelsea buns, making popcorn balls at Halloween to teaching her daughters the fine art of sewing. Both a quiet and modest person, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a friend to many in the community and was a member of the Oxford Women’s Institute. A consummate reader, always on top of world events, she traveled the world and ages through a multitude of books many of them read more than once simply because she really enjoyed it or just to see if she liked it better the second time. Concerning golf, Tiger Woods was her favourite until Rory McIlroy took over, always enjoying the scenery but turning down the volume on the commentator. She leaves behind a menagerie of stuffed teddy bears, dolls and tin boxes. Any one given as a gift was sure to bring a smile to her face as she welcomed a new friend into the fold. Her little hummingbird will miss her filling the feeder on his return each spring. Her family would like to extend a sincere Thank You to the staff at Seaforth Manor with their gentle and compassionate care during her brief stay, to the Home Care staff that made her independence possible and Kathleen for being such a terrific neighbour. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation at the Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004, on Thursday August 21st, 2014 after 1:00pm. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday at 2:00pm. Interment in the North Embro Cemetery. If desired, contributions to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
