Richard Lee Ashmore, Sr., 74, of Wallace, passed away at 9:05am, Monday, August 18, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Washington, PA, October 19, 1939 a son of the late Andrew and Anna Mae Perrino Ashmore. He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Anna Wolfe Ashmore. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Ashmore, Manassas, VA, Richard Ashmore, Jr., Wallace, two daughters, Betty Ashmore, Wallace, Rebecca Miles and her husband Mark, West Union, four grandchildren, Kristin and Matthew Ashmore, both of Manassas, VA, Sarah Miles, Seattle, WA, and Devin Miles, Durham, NC, three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Destiny, and Kaitlyn Moneymaker, two sisters, Freda Kendall and her husband John, Shinnston, Linda Ashmore, Dayville, CT, one sister-in-law, Connie Ashmore, Nashville, IN, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and James Ashmore, two sisters, Dolly and Mary Ann Ashmore, one sister-in-law, Gloria Ashmore, aunt, Mary Munchie, and uncle, William Ashmore. Richard was a veteran having served with the United States Navy. He was a coal miner having retired from Consol Energy, Robinson Run Mine with over 19 years in the mining industry. He was also employed by Lays Potato Chips and a glass factory in CT and the WV Department of Highways. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31, Shinnston, The Loyal Order of the Moose #929, Shinnston, Fraternal Order Orioles, Shinnston. He enjoyed playing the machines and tried to treat every one well. He was a man that would do anything for anyone. He was protestant by faith. Friends may call at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 4-8pm, Thursday. A graveside service will be held at 11am, Friday, August 22 at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded. Pastor Gary Dennison will officiate. Interment will be in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.perinefunerals.com.
