Evelyn J. Pontius, 91 of Grants Pass passed away August 16, 2014 at The Suites Assisted Living in Grants Pass, Oregon. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014, 1:00 PM at Stephens Family Chapel in Grants Pass. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014, 10:00 AM at Battlement Cemetery in Parachute, Colorado. Evelyn was born on September 8, 1922 in Richmond, Kansas to Valentine and Johanna Bures. On November 4, 1941 she married Harry Clyde Pontius in Garnett, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1999. She worked for 20 years as a nurses aid and then in a school cafeteria for 12 yrs. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading, visiting, bingo, going to Seven Feathers and spending time with family. Survivors include her daughters, Sandy Valdez of Missouri, Karen Srebrecht of Eugene, Oregon, Joanie Pontius of De Beque, Colorado, Mary Lou Nelson of Grants Pass, Oregon and Lynn Casad of Medford, Oregon; sister, Doris Hicks of Garnett, Kansas; 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by 11 siblings.
