Gretchen Marie Zvan, 98 of Grants Pass passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at her home with family by her side. No services are planned. She was born on April 29, 1916 in Hammond, Indiana to Alexander and Melita Hanes. After high school graduation she worked with an optometrist and as a seamstress. On July 5, 1938, she married Robert Zvan, who survives. They were together for 76 years. She was a homemaker, Girl Scout camp chairman, school board member, election official and school bus driver. After retiring in 1974, they traveled across the United States, Canada and Mexico in their Airstream trailer. They settled in Apache Junction, Arizona, as a home base for 28 years. In March of 2011, they moved to Spring Meadows Retirement Community in Grants Pass to be near their daughter. They enjoyed activities at The Springs and for several years they enjoyed morning walks across the pedestrian bridge over the river. She is survived by her husband, Robert Zvan of Grants Pass, OR; daughter, Nancy Zvan of Brookings, OR and Grants Pass, OR and grandson, Benjamin Zvan of Minneapolis, Minnesota. A son, Garry Zvan preceded her in death in 1997.
