Dorothy Jean Derr Bell, 86, formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Born in Hummelstown on November 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Lester M. and Verne Shireman Derr. Jean retired as an Executive Secretary for the state of Pennsylvania and for Lower Dauphin School District. She was a 1945 graduate of the former Hummelstown High School. A woman of strong faith, Jean was a very active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A kind and giving person, most important to Jean was caring for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Bell, on February 21, 2000; and one brother, J. Edwin Derr. Jean is survived by one son, Joel D. Bell husband of Ellen of Bryson City, NC; one granddaughter, Casey Bell Loos wife of Kirk of Hummelstown; two step grandchildren, Jennifer Munroe of Kingman, AZ, and Kelly Munroe of Austin, TX; one great granddaughter, Avery Loos of Hummelstown A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 7 PM in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Wayne D. Moritz, her pastor, officiating. A private inurnment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday in the church’s parlor from 6:30 PM until time of the services.
