Jeffrey Miner Austin, age 82 of Ludington passed away on Friday August 1, 2014 at Tendercare of Ludington. He was born on October 3, 1932 in Highland Park, IL, son of the late Miner M. and Helen M. (Strickle) Austin. Jeff attended Urbana High School and graduated with the class of 1950 and then went on to attend the University of Illinois graduating with his Master Degree in Education. Jeff enlisted in the United States Navy, serving until he was honorable discharged as a Lieutenant J.G. He was a lifetime teacher and was the President of the United States Trampoline Association, the Ludington Rotary Club and Lincoln Hills Golf Club. Susan Claire Austin, age 78 of Ludington passed away on Saturday August 2, 2014 at home surrounded by family. She was born on May 19, 1936 in Urbana, IL, daughter of the late Wilson D. and Pearl C. (Hughes) Hill. Susan attended Champaign High School and graduated with the class of 1954. She was a board member of the Hamlin Lake Preservation Society, St. Simon Catholic Church, Lincoln Hills Golf Club and the Philanthropic Education Organization. Jeffrey and Susan were married on June 20, 1955 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Champaign, IL. Jeffrey and Susan are survived by their two sons, Curtis (Debra) Austin of Libertyville, IL and Chris (Mari) Austin of Schaumburg, IL; grandchildren, Aaron, Brent, Michael and Brandon Austin; Jeff’s sister, Ann Laurent of Indianapolis, IN; Susan’s sister; Nancy Duffy of Ludington; Susan’s brothers, John (Linda) Hill of LaGrange, IL and Bob Hill of West Palm Beach, FL; and a large extended family and friends. They are preceded in death by their parents; Susan’s sister, Judy Murphy. Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass from the Order of Christian funerals for Mr. and Mrs. Austin will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday August 9, 2014 at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Wayne Wheeler celebrant. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday August 8, 2014 at St. Simon Catholic Church from 6:00PM until 7:00PM with an evening vigil being held at 7:00PM. Final interment will immediately follow the funeral mass at Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery in Ludington.
