Denny Whitmire Obituary

Denny W. Whitmire, 80, of Winchester, died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Whitmire was born on June 16, 1934 in Hayfield, VA; the son of Perry A. Whitmire and Mildred Fishel Whitmire. He was a graduate of John Handley High School Class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in Wertheim, Germany. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1962. He was a member and past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose, member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, member and past president of the Exchange Club of Winchester, member of the VFW, member of First Presbyterian Church of Winchester and past Elder of the Presbyterian Session. He married Irma Jane Bryan on March 31, 1962 in Salem, VA. Along with his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his daughter, Lynda W. Whitmire-Fike and her husband Scott T. Fike of Half Moon Bay, CA; and two brothers, Terry L. Whitmire and his wife Velma N. Whitmire of Winchester and Allen W. Whitmire of Salem, VA. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Richard W. Reifsnyder officiating. Interment will be held privately, after the service, in Mt. Hebron Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
