Katherine J. “Kitty” Oprean, 91, of Addis St. passed away the morning of July 27, 2014 at Jameson Hospital.

Born in New Castle on February 26, 1923, Katherine was the daughter of the late Nile J. and Agnes Hall Simpson. Preceding her in death on December 21, 1980, is her husband, George Oprean whom she married on May 25, 1940.

She was a homemaker and a member of Third United Presbyterian Church and the True Blue Sunday School class. She was also a member of the New Castle Wimodausis. Katherine was a caring and loving person who always saw the good in people. She had a zest for life and learning. Above all else, Katherine enjoyed cooking for and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her four children, Jeffrey E. Oprean of New Castle; Patricia Hildebrand of Claxton, GA; Sondra Hall and husband Russell of New Castle; Katherine Reiter and husband Danny of New Castle; her daughter-in-law, Diann Oprean Fulmer of New Castle; nineteen grandchildren, thirty six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, George John Oprean, who died on February 19, 1998 and her four brothers, Nile, Frank, Robert and Russell “Lee” Simpson.

Visitation is Wednesday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S. Mill St.

Services will be held on Thursday at 11AM at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Michael Spicuzza and Rev. John Yergan. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
