Millinocket – Paul M. Brooks, 76, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at a Millinocket hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 19, 1938 in Lincoln, the son of Hector and Beulah (Nelson) Brooks. Paul was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, but was fortunate enough to serve his duty stateside and not face combat. After his military service, Paul was employed by the Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket, where he worked in the Finishing Room before retiring. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Millinocket, where he served on the board of deacons. Paul was also a member of Donald V. Henry Post #80 of the American Legion in Millinocket, where he was involved in many capacities of leadership, including Commander. He was also a part of the military honors team at the legion. Paul loved being in and around the woods, and was an admirer of old trucks. In later years, he enjoyed photography as a hobby. Paul will be remembered as being quick witted and good humored, and enjoyed delivering a good “zinger” whenever he could! His family always came first, especially his grandsons, who called him “Gonky”. His daughters, who knew him as a selfless father, and his beloved wife will miss him greatly. Paul is survived by his wife of 51 years Gail A. (Valent) of Millinocket; three daughters, Kathy Brooks of Biddeford, Lisa Riddell of Gray, and Danielle O’Mahony and her husband David of Riverview, Florida; four grandsons, Paul and Zac Riddell, and Christopher and Rory O’Mahony; a brother, Alan Brooks of Old Town; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Wednesday, July 30 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket with the Rev. Terry Given officiating.
