Lanny Eugene Snyder, 72, of Winchester, VA, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at his residence. Eugene was born on February 7, 1942 in Winchester, the son of Robert J. and Rosie Wolfrey Snyder. He was a graduate of James Wood High School class of 1962 and then served with the US Army as a SP 5 in the 4th Armored Division in Erlangen, Germany. He began his trucking career at H.N. Funkhouser while also managing the “Handley Texaco” for Mr. Robert Claytor who he greatly admired. He owned and operated “Eugene’s Cash Grocery” and “Eugene Snyder Trucking”. He hauled stone for Chantilly Crushed Stone in Chantilly, VA during the 70’s, 80’s and mid 90’s. He passed his company over to his sons in early 2000. He was known to his peers as “Boss Hog”. He was a long standing member of Macedonia United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and served on the building committee. He loved his church and looked forward to going each Sunday. He believed his week always went better by attending church. Eugene married Patricia Vann Snyder on March 16, 1968 in Stephens City, VA. Along with his wife, Patricia of forty -six years, he is survived by sons, Lanny Scott Snyder and wife, Cindy and Christopher Eugene Snyder and wife, Lena; grandsons, his pride and joy, Jacob Scott Snyder and Curtis Wayne Snyder all of Winchester; sisters, Elizabeth Sargent of White Post, VA and Lorraine Getts and husband, Frankie of Rippon, WV, four half sisters, a number of nieces and nephews and his beloved cat,“Tigger”. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by brothers, Skeeter Snyder, Arthur Snyder, Vernon Snyder and two half brothers. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Mayton officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Randy Manning, Jeff Heflin, David Ginevan, James Lantz, Berlie Thompson, Jerry Parrill and Gary Dillon. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenney Frye, JD Lawyer, Earl Sager, Merrill Hausenfluck, Phil Ginn, Billy Place, Danny Goode, Jerry O’Neal, Wayne Hoover, Earl Proffitt, Doug Kern, James Sumption and Bill DeHaven. Memorial contributions may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 1941 Macedonia Church Road, White Post, VA 22663 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601. Flowers will be accepted by the family.
