Hurley Deeter

Hurley T. Deeter, 94, of Bloomsburg went to be with the Lord July 24, 2014, at Geisinger Bloomsburg Health Care Center. He was born May 7, 1920, in Rupert, a son of the late William A. and Odessa (Boyer) Deeter. On July 3, 1948, he married the love of his life Grace Virginia Johnson. She passed away October 12, 1998. Hurley attended Rupert schools. He was a weaver at Magee Carpet Company now known as Magee Rieter Automotive. He served in World War II in the Army. He was part of the 42nd Engineering Construction Battalion, which served in the Aleutian Islands and the Philippines. During his service in the Pacific Theater, he received the AS-PAC-THR-SER-MED with two bronze stars as well as the Philippines Liberation ribbon with one bronze star. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Buckhorn. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his younger days he was a good trapper. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by siblings Albert and Kimber Deeter, Doris Good, Pearl Remley. He is survived by three daughters Mollie and her husband Gregory Benshoff of Millville, Margaret and her husband Robert Reed of Danville, and Victoria and her husband Gilbert Pohl of Cross, South Carolina, and a son Johnny Deeter and wife Paula of Benton, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister Sonia Deeter of Bloomsburg. Services will be Monday, July 28, 2014, at 11:00 am from Rodger T. Bunnell Funeral Home 435 Market Street, Bloomsburg with Pastor Becky Horn officiating. Burial will be at Millville Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10:00 until time of service. Friends unable to attend may send condolences at bunnellfuneralhome.com.
