Joseph Card Manistee, Michigan Obituary

Joseph Card

Joseph Sidney Card, of Fountain, age 62, died peacefully at home with his family at his side on Monday July 21, 2014, at 7:40 PM. Joe was born to Pauline (Kapanka) and L. Weldon Card on October 7, 1951 in Midland. He grew up in a loving Christian family and attended the Midland Seventh-day Adventist Church which was a great influence for the rest of his life. He was an active member of the Midland Pathfinder Club where he learned life skills and made life long friends. He loved the outdoors and camping, canoeing and skiing, hunting and fishing and anything having to do with motors and engines. Growing up he loved to weld and built go-carts and mini bikes. They were all lessons well learned and knowledge used in his employment in various mechanical and motor based jobs. It was said that “Joe is the most valuable piece of equipment we have in the shop.” He could fix anything! Joe attended Midland Public Schools and graduated from Midland H.S. in 1969. He moved to the northwest area of Michigan where he met and married Ann, the beautiful red-haired sister to his good friend, Bob Oman. Joe and Ann had a son, James Jeffrey Card who now lives in Kingman, AZ. Joe later met and married his friend and lover, Kathy Augustine, who is the mother to their daughter Nina Diamond Card who lives in Ludington. Joe’s claim to fame is having had his tow truck featured in the 2012 movie “The Adventures of Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Treasure”. At the movie premier in Grand Rapids, Joe met and was photographed with the stars of the movie, Christopher Lloyd, Ernie Hudson, and Lee Arenberg. Joe retired in 2010, giving him more time to tinker in his garage and spend time with his friends and family. He was a proud member of the “Bare Foot Paddlers” a kayaking club made up of some of his best buddies. Joe also enjoyed the yearly reunion with his siblings whether in Michigan, Missouri or Oregon over the past 20 years. Joe is survived by his son, James Jeffrey (Lisa) Card and granddaughter, Joslin Abigale, of Kingman, AZ; daughter, Nina Diamond Card and grandson, Aaron David Card of Ludington; brother, David L. (Donna) Card of Columbia, MO; sisters, Paula J. (John) Solomon of Escanaba, Susan M. (Steve) Tidwell of Berrien Springs and Mary Anne (Walker) Card of Holland; Nieces and Nephews, Josh (Jessica) Card, Jenny (Rachel) Card-Kacey, Jeff (Audrey) Solomon, Melissa (Steve) Solomon-Varhola, Sara (Phil) Lamarch, Beth (Herbie) Helm, Alison (Anthony) Duis, Andrew Tidwell, Paul (Mandy) Walker and Nathan Walker, all who loved and were loved by Joe. Joe considered his friends to be part of his family. He loved them and called them his brothers and sisters. They were his world. He loved everyone, treated them as he would have liked to be treated, was willing to forgive and held nothing against anyone knowing that in the end everyone gets judged by the All Mighty according to the same rules. He prayed for his friends and family and wants all to be reunited in Heaven. He now rests in the arms of Jesus awaiting His soon Second Coming bringing eternal life to all who will accept it. Funeral services for Joe will be held at 2:30PM on Friday, July 25th, at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington with Pastor Joseph Hilyard officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:30PM until time of service. Burial will follow at Fountain Cemetery in Fountain.
