Norman G. Gabriel Obituary

Norman G. Gabriel, 81, of New Castle passed away the evening of July 19, 2014 at Jameson Hospital.


Born in New Castle on August 25, 1932, Norman was the son of the late George Ameen and Mary Saad Gabriel. Surviving at home is his loving and devoted wife, the former Marlene Joseph, whom he married on June 29, 1963. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church.


Norman retired after working for more than twenty five years as a decorator for Shenango Pottery. He had also worked for the China Cupboard Store of Shenango Pottery. Norman enjoyed watching sports, playing the horses, and was considered one of the best horse handicappers in the business. He loved music and played in various local bands. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and cherished the times he spent with his family.


In addition to his wife, Marlene, he is survived by his three children, Dr. George Gabriel and his wife Lisa of Wexford; Norman Gabriel and his wife Rhonda and LeeAnn Gabriel, both of New Castle; three sisters, Lillian Medure and husband Sam; Donna Joseph; Genevieve Gabriel, all of New Castle; and four grandchildren, George C. Gabriel, Lauren Gabriel, Brianna Gabriel and Andrew Gabriel.


He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James, his sister, Sadie and his brother-in-law, George (Orgie) Joseph.


Visitation is Tuesday from 4PM to 8PM at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 3000 Wilmington Rd. A Service of Incense will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:30PM.


A procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:15AM for St. John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church where a Funeral Liturgy will be conducted at 10AM by Rev. Father Claude Franklin. Burial will take place at Parkside Cemetery.
