Frederick (Ted) Gerson Obituary

Ted Gerson February 16, 1921 – July 18, 2014. Ted was born in Essen, Germany, and attended Cambridge University for one year before his internment during WWII. Ted graduated from University of Toronto, Faculty of Engineering in 1947. He married Margo (deceased 2011) and enjoyed with her a wondrous 57 years of marriage. He is mourned by daughter Deni Cashin (John) and son Jamie (Marilyn Spink). He loved dearly his 5 grandchildren: Kaili and Greg Cashin, Eric, Brian and Graham Gerson. He will be deeply missed by extended family in the United States and Europe. Ted enjoyed a distinguished career as President of F.T. Gerson Limited, earning respect and accolades from his peers. Through his consulting engineering practice Ted pioneered developments in efficient use of resources to reduce the environmental impact from the production of metals and plastics. Ted’s numerous professional honors include designation as a Fellow of Engineers Canada, lifelong Warden and Honorary Warden of Camp 1, Toronto, and membership in the Hall of Distinction U of T Alumni Association. He enjoyed his long time association with the University Club, Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Art Gallery of Ontario. His grandchildren loved his amazing intellect, his stories about their heritage and quantum physics. Ted lived life to the fullest and on his own terms. At Ted's request, he was cremated, there will be no funeral, and flowers are gratefully declined. Later this fall, family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors will share reminiscences at an informal reception to be arranged in Toronto. Condolences may placed at www.skinnerandmiddlebrook.com.
