L. Robert Simmons Obituary

Fort Edward L. Robert “Bob” Simmons, 70, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday July 15, 2014 at his home. Born on May 18, 1944 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Lawrence A. and Anne (Dobroski) Simmons. Bob was a graduate of Fort Edward High School and attended Adirondack Community College. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Fort Edward. After completing his Electrical Apprenticeship he became an Electrician and worked for Hercules then Ciba Geigy. While at plant, he served as Shop Steward for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union as well as Coordinator of plant craft unions. Following the closure of the plant, Bob worked at placing workers in new jobs as one of the career center counselors. He later retired from the Washington County Sewer District as Supervisor with 15 years of service. Bob served as a former member of the board of directors of the Tri-County United Way. He was a member of the Fort Edward Idle Hour Club, the Hudson Falls American Legion and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, casinos, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, deep sea fishing, horse races, football pools and the New York Yankee’s. He and Marcia enjoyed their many cruises to the Caribbean, Australia, Alaska, Europe and South America and traveled the United States extensively stopping at every state except for 2. On Sept 17, 1977 Bob married Marcia Tourge. Besides his parents, Bob was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Richard “Dick” Tourge. Left to cherish his memories besides his wife include his children, Brian Simmons and wife Tiffanie, Natalie Simmons and husband Randall; his sister, Mary Ann Archambault and husband Terry, his four grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Norma Tourge and sister-in-law, Karen Tourge and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 82 Broadway, Fort Edward. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00am on Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. Joseph Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward. The Rite of Committal will follow with military honors at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fort Edward.
