Ruth C. Blake, age 92, of Orange, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, July 13, 2014. Born October 31, 1921, in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Esther (Reilly) Cooney. After attending local schools, Ruth met her soon to be husband Chester while working at Berger Brothers in New Haven. Following her marriage to Chet in 1942, she followed him to various U.S. Army Air Corps bases as he prepared for his overseas missions. In later years, they enjoyed traveling to many beautiful locations, including Ireland, the home of her ancestors. As members of Racebrook Country Club, Ruth and Chet enjoyed playing golf and dining with friends. Her husband of 70 years predeceased her in 2012. Ruth was a spunky lady known for her great storytelling, wonderful sense of humor and fantastic style. She took great pride in decorating and maintaining her beautiful home. Ruth loved to discuss world events and politics and faithfully kept up with the news. More than anything, Ruth took joy in being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Always ready to help anyone in her family, her favorite occupation was chief babysitter. Left to cherish her memories are her beloved children: Linda & Don DiLauro of Orange; Bonnie Blake of Woodbridge; and Ruthmary Blake & her husband Mark Miller of VA.
