Robert LaCasse

Millinocket and Skowhegan – Robert R. “Bob” LaCasse, 87, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. He was born December 28, 1926 in Skowhegan, the son of Joseph F. and Delia M. (Sylvain) LaCasse. Bob was a graduate of Skowhegan, class of 1945, where he was a gifted athlete that lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S Army. He attended the Farmington State Teachers College on the G.I. Bill, and later attained a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Maine at Orono. Bob was a teacher for more than 35 years, first in South Paris, and then in Millinocket during the 1960’s and 70’s, from where he retired. While a teacher in Millinocket, he was a football coach in the Little Giant football program and also at Stearns High School. He was a lifelong avid fan of Notre Dame football. Bob will be remembered as a loving and involved father and grandfather, and was very proud of his grandchildren. Bob is survived by two children, Joey LaCasse and his wife Renee, and their son Gus, all of Trenton, and Ann Theriault and her husband David, and their children Elaine and Jimmy, all of Winthrop; a brother, Gerald and his family; a very special friend, Violet Ferland, and her family, Bruce and Janet Ferland, and their children Derik and Travis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife, Carmen (DiNardo) LaCasse, and a brother, Francis. Funeral services will be held privately for the family. Interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Bob may be sent to the Carmen DiNardo LaCasse Memorial Scholarship, C/O Stearns High School, P.O. Box 30, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
