Gertrude Pratt passed away peacefully at her home in Waldoboro July 4th 2014. She was born on January 27, 1922 in Waldoboro to the late Cecil and Flora Orff Newbert. Mrs. Pratt attended and graduated from the Waldoboro High School, she also attended the Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, Massachusetts. She completed her Teaching Certificate at home. Mrs. Pratt took in Foster Children for many years prior to becoming a 1st Grade School Teacher at Friendship Street School. She loved to play the piano, violin and singing. She also had a love for gardening, canning and cooking at home. Mrs. Pratt volunteered for many years at The Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Waldoboro. She received a Presidential Certificate for her devotion to volunteer work. She was a member of The Nazarene Church in North Waldoboro, where she served as Treasurer, was a former Adult Sunday School Teacher and Past Missionary President. Mrs. Pratt was predeceased in death by her parents, Her Husband Reverend Emery Pratt; Sister, Bernice Newhall; Three Brothers, Merton, Leonard and Bernard Newbert; Grand- daughter, Joanna Burke; Niece, Lucille Lash; Step-daughter Ann Latford; Step grandson Emery Richardson. Survivors include; Daughter, Carol Ann Burke, Mansfield, Massachuetts; Daughter, Sandra Underhill, New Market, Tennessee; Foster sisters, Lucille Raven and Dot Christ; Grandson, Mark Weston Burke, Providence, Rhode Island; Step daughters, Alice Deery, Gloria Richardson and Annie Swazey, all of Danielson, Connecticut; Step grandsons, Danny and David Richardson and Joey Deery, all of Putnam, Connecticut. Many Nieces and Nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 7, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine, with the Reverend Robert Bellows, Pastor of Orff’s Corner Community Church, officiating.
