Jimmy Quillen, age 67, 104 Sycamore Street, Erwin, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Kelly and Winnie Gillenwater Quillen. Mr. Quillen was a U. S. Army Veteran and retired in 1995 as a conductor for CSX Railroad after twenty-two years of service. He attended the Pathway Freewill Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Luella Higgins and Lucille Tesnear. Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Jeanette Quillen; one son, Joe Quillen and wife, April, and one daughter, Kimberly Quillen, all of Erwin; three grandchildren, Kristal Wilson, Joseph Ray Quillen and Leah Quillen, all of Erwin; one sister, Finetta Quillen of Erwin; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Higgins of Erwin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 8:00 P.M. from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Bernie Jones and Reverend Kevin Laws will officiate. Music will be provided by Darren Higgins and Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be Alan Garland, Zackary Garland, Glenn Higgins, Steve Huskins, Ronnie Miller and Terry Tipton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P. M. to 8:00 P. M. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Committal service will be held at 10:00 A. M. Friday, July 4, 2014 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 A. M. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
