Robert Wallish Obituary

Robert J. “Bob” Wallish, 88, of Hummelstown, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Shamokin on May 19, 1926, he was the son of the late John Joseph Wallish and Mary Edna Kahney Wallish Earnest. Bob was the owner and founder of Hillcrest Auto Body, Hummelstown. He was the Valedictorian and President of the 1944 graduating class of the former Hershey Industrial School now known as Milton Hershey Schools. Bob was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in Okinawa during World War II. He served on the South Hanover Parks and Recreation Board. Bob was a life member of the Uniontown Fire Co, Coal Township. He was co-founder of the Dodge Brothers Antique Car Club; and a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Three Pines Hunting Club in Tioga County, and Appalachian Hunting Club. Bob enjoyed his antique cars, hunting, fishing, and raising peacocks and pheasants. Although a strong-willed and sometimes impatient man, he would give you the shirt off his back in one second if you needed it. Most important to Bob, however, was spending time with his family. He is survived by two sons, Robert James Wallish husband of Tina H. of Hummelstown, and Gary F. Wallish husband of Bonnie L. of Grantville; three daughters, Carol A. Spencer wife of Terence J. of Hummelstown, Roberta J. “Bonnie” Tesno wife of Charles A. of Annville, and Suzanne M. Bess wife of William L. of Marion, OH; one sister, Patricia Latsha of Milton; 14 beloved grandchildren; 17 loving great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Chris B. Wallish on October 2, 1998; his life partner, Devona Haug; and three brothers, Charles, Fred and George. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. John L. Shellenberger officiating. Viewings will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM and again on Friday from 10 to 11 AM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions made to the South Hanover Township Parks & Programs, 111 West Third Street, Hershey, PA 17033; or to the Union Deposit Volunteer Fire Company 47, 10 West Main Street, Hershey, PA 17033.
