Gemmell (Thompson) Dorothy Elizabeth age 82, Lunenburg, passed away peacefully in Harbour View Haven Lunenburg on June 16, 2014. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 24, 1931. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family Her business career included several years with Investors Syndicate in Winnipeg and over thirty years with National Sea Products Ltd. in Halifax. Dorothy loved flowers, animals, music and books. She was well known for her superb floral arrangements which she shared at volunteer events. Tables came alive with the addition of her vibrant centrepieces. She shared this talent while at Harbor View Haven. She loved attending St. John’s Anglican Church Lunenburg, where for a time she sang in the choir. Music made her happy as evident by the many recordings she had in her possession which she often played for her fellow residents. Attendance at concerts was the highlight of her life. Many thanks to the kind souls who got her for the concerts and returned her safely home. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Archdeacon Michael Mitchell, officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg.
