Mildred Gillis Thomas Johnson, age 85, 4167 Old Asheville Highway, Flag Pond, TN passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Flag Pond and a daughter of the late William Lattie Gillis, Sr. and Vivian Barnes Gillis. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church. She thoroughly enjoyed collecting dolls, repairing them, and was the owner of Millie's Doll Shop in downtown Erwin. She was a loving mother and devoted wife and enjoyed homemaking for her family. Other than her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Mitchell Thomas, a sister, Dorothy Higgins, three brothers: William Lattie Gillis, Jr.; twin brothers: Jim Gillis, and an infant twin brother. Survivors include her loving husband of thirty nine years, Clarence Johnson, four sons: Jack Thomas, Jr., Miami, FL; Robert (Bob) Thomas, and wife, Debbie; Randy Thomas, and wife, Tracy, both of Flag Pond; Benjamin Thomas, AL, one brother, Lynn Gillis, and wife, Norma, Roseville, CA; one sister, Louise Treadway, Flag Pond; three step-sons: Larry Johnson, and wife, Barbara, Dennis Johnson, and wife, Vicki, and Keith Johnson, all of AL; one step- daughter, Donna Stuart, and husband, Abner, AL; twenty two grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Don Wilson will officiate. Special music will be provided by Jennifer Weems. Pallbearers will be David Weems, Loren Thomas, Jason Thomas, Jameson Thomas, Johnny Harris, Daniel Naslanic and Stacy Wiggand. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral service, between the hours of 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and other times at the residence. The committal service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in Clouse Cemetery. Those attending will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 am to go in procession to the cemetery.
