Roland Luce

Roland R. Luce, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday April 18, 2014 at the Togus VA Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Union, Maine on May 17, 1921 the son of the late Ralph and Daisy Pease Luce. Roland grew up in North Union and attended schools in Burkettville and Washington. After leaving school he joined the work force and held various jobs before joining the United States Army and serving his country during World War II. Roland served in the European theatre and was involved with the Battle of the Bulge. After his service he returned home to his wife Anna and their two children. Utilizing the GI Bill Roland went back to school for refrigeration repair. He turned this new skill into a career as he became the owner of the local Maytag store in Waldoboro. Along with refrigeration repair he also worked on radios and television. After his time at the store he joined the team at Bath Iron Works where he would work as a pipe coverer until he retired. Roland was always on the go and had various hobbies that he enjoyed. He dealt with antiques, at one point in time running a store in Washington Village. He also enjoyed spending time at auctions and was always on the hunt for a good deal. He loved watching sulky racing at the fairs, and enjoyed spending time at Hollywood Slots. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, and played baseball himself in his younger years for the town team in Washington. Roland wintered in Florida near Ocala and Silver Springs for 19 years. He stayed active there, and occasionally played golf in his spare time. While in Maine, he spent his time staying very busy with various organizations. He was a scout leader, a past commander and charter member at the Farrar-Ross VFW Post 9437, a member of the Knox County Liars Club, and the oldest member of Mt. Olivet Mason Lodge in Washington, Maine, having served for 70+ years. A time of gathering will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine. A Masonic Service will take place Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. during visitation. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Lewis officiating at Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro. Roland was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Anna Luce A sister Evelyn Hatch and brother Raymond Pease He is survived by his sons, Ronald Luce and wife Linda of Washington, Maine, Larry Luce and wife Joann of Washington, Maine and Dennis Luce and wife Sylvia of Sidney, Maine Ten Grandchildren Twenty Great Grandchildren One Great Great Grandchild One Niece and one Nephew In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt.
