Mary Gifford Obituary

Mary E. Gifford, 80, of Lumberport, passed away at 10:10 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the home of her son David in Shinnston. She was born at Mount Clare, November 13, 1933, a daughter of the late Lawrence Adams and Marie Stark Moats. She was raised by her grandparents, the late Arthur and Sarah Ellen Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband , Denver D. Gifford, November 11, 2003. She is survived by her two sons, Alan Gifford and his wife Debbie, Shawnee, Kansas, David J. Gifford and his wife Rachael, Shinnston, five daughters, Sherri Carr and her husband Michael, Anmoore, Katherine Bragg and her fiancé Rob Jones, Lumberport, Debra Burrows and her companion Scott Posey, Weston, Mary Jo Elder and her husband William, Lumberport and Jessica Knotts and her husband Jamie, Clarksburg, 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Robin Allman and one grandson, Shawn Michael Allman. Mary was a homemaker and was a member of the Lumberport Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she was very active until the time of her illness. She served as a councilwoman for the city of Lumberport and was a former member of the DAV auxiliary of Clarksburg. She was a great caregiver to her disabled husband, daughter and grandfather, prior to their deaths. Mary enjoyed playing bingo, feeding birds, going for nature drives in the evening and watching game shows and the Nature Channel. She had a tremendous love and care for her family all of her life and will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Emily Castle, and the Amedisys Hospice of Anmoore, especially Joe, Nicole and Julie. Friends may call at the Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St., Shinnston, from 2-8 p.m., Thursday, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 18, with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating.
