George Burkett

George Henry Burkett, 79, of Glen Ellyn, IL, and formerly of Lower Paxton Twp., passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Apollo, PA on January 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Clyde O. and Mildred V. Burkett. George was a graduate of Steelton High School, and retired from AMP, Inc., Harrisburg, after 27 years. He was a member of the Harrisburg Hunters & Anglers, Mechanicsburg Sportsmen’s Assoc., and the NRA. He was also an active Ham radio operator (N3YB), and was a member of the Harrisburg Radio Amateur’s Club, the National Association for Amateur Radio, and was a certified volunteer examiner for the Laurel, MD VEC. George was an active member of the Prince Edwin-Spring Creek Lodge No. 486 F&AM, Middletown, where he was a past secretary and the 2013 Mason of the Year, and member of the Capital Area Scottish Rite Club. He also enjoyed woodworking, and loved spending time with his family. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wreatha D. (Coy) Burkett on July 2, 2007, and his sister, Virginia Mitchell. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Brillant and husband Carl of Millersburg, and a son, William Burkett and wife Christina of Glendale Heights, IL, and three grandchildren, Ian, Elise and Chloe. A Masonic service will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with the funeral service immediately following. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg. Friends are invited to call for a viewing in the funeral home Wednesday from 10 AM until time of the services.
