Katharine Boyer

Katharine G. “Cassie” Boyer, 79, of Spring Creek Rehab & Healthcare Center, Swatara Township, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, in the home. Born in Harrisburg on February 8, 1935, she was the daughter of Clarence V. and Viola M. Seitz Gingrich. Cassie was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She had worked as a typist for the Pennsylvania state government. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown, where she was a former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Cassie was a member of a pinochle club, enjoyed knitting, playing bingo, doing crafts, and loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin R. Boyer, on August 20, 2001; and her brother, Clarence O. Gingrich. Cassie is survived by one son, David R. Boyer husband of Amy of Hummelstown; one daughter, Katherine Forney wife of Michael L. of Elizabethtown; and four grandchildren, Travis M. Forney and his girlfriend Angela Klein of Middletown, Erin N. Forney and Samantha N. Forney both of Elizabethtown; and Brandon M. Boyer of Hummelstown. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2014, at 11 AM in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Wayne D. Moritz, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Relatives and friends will be received at the viewings Wednesday, April 16, 2014, from 6 to 8 PM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, and on Thursday in the church’s parlor from 10 AM until time of the services. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Avenue, Suite 103, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
